Project Learning Tree (PLT) is an award-winning environmental education program designed for teachers and other educators with students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

PLT trained facilitators conduct PLT workshops for educators throughout Texas. Educators receive written curriculum materials as well as practical, hands-on training during the workshop. Minimal fee required per participant.

PLT is correlated to the K-12 Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).  PLT is also correlated to the National Science and Social Studies Standards; Girl Scout curriculum; and North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) Guidelines for Learning.

PLT workshops can be arranged at a variety of times and locations, including weekends, during the workday, or immediately after the school day is over.

PLT uses the forest as a “window” into the natural world, helping young people gain an awareness and knowledge of the world around them, as well as their place within it.

PLT
  • works in the city and the country, whether there is a forest or a single tree. It also works in El Paso, Harlingen, Abilene and Lubbock - anywhere in Texas.
  • helps prepare students to make informed decisions about conservation practices and resource use.
  • teaches students how to think, not what to think about our complex environment.
  • helps develop student skills in creative problem solving, critical thinking, evaluation and research.
  • is fun while learning!
