GreenWorks!  

In 1993, PLT developed GreenWorks! Community Action and Service Learning Program. This program was designed to offer PLT educators and their students the opportunity to make a real difference in the communities, in which they live and work. GreenWorks! encourages students to participate in community-based partnerships by developing and implementing action projects such as graffiti paint-overs, tree plantings, stream clean-ups, and recycling programs.  

When PLT educators and their students partner with local community groups with the goal of improving the environment they help educate the community on environmental issues that specifically affect their community. This supports PLT's goal of bringing students from awareness to action.

Green works! Grants Available
Through support from Phillip Petroleum Company and the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation, PLT has been able to provide more than 500 Green works! Community Action Grants that involved more than 35,000 children.

Service Learning Puts Academics into Action
"Service learning has 'terrific' potential to motivate disengaged students..."  A report (Scott Willis, June 2002) of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) cites astronaut and former senator John Glenn recommending all students in U.S. schools participate in high-quality service learning every year as an integral part of their education.
