Outstanding Texas Educators
Now Accepting Nominations for 2011!
Each year, Texas PLT selects an Outstanding Educator. This is someone who goes "above and beyond" while using PLT in his/her classroom. The recipients receive $1,000.00, a plaque, and are invited to serve on the PLT Advisory Committee for 2 years. Nominations are sent to the National PLT office for the opportunity for national recognition. 2011 Texas winner will be nominated for 2012 National PLT Outstanding Educator Award.
Please completely fill out the Nomination form and include all necessary documents and photos and email to: EducationInTexas@TexasForestry.org. Nominations must be received by September 24, 2011.
Congratulations Susan Campbell!
This year Susan Campbell was nationally recognized as an outstanding educator. Susan Campbell, Education Coordinator for the City of San Antonio Parks and Recreation Natural Areas, was recognized for her enthusiasm and creativity in educating Texans of all ages about the environment. Among her many initiatives, she developed URock! Get Outdoors, a one-week camp for middle school students from the south side of San Antonio. She also leads field tours along the Medina River for thousands of students and adults each year. She has created programs for home-schooled students, senior adults, and students at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) who are studying to become classroom teachers. Susan serves on the advisory board of the SAVE (Strengthening Awareness and Valuing the Environment) Program, which provides environmental education training to more than 500 teachers every year. She is currently South Texas representative on the board of the Texas Association for Environmental Education and is a member of the Pre-Service Teacher Advisory Board at UTSA.
